In short: At a coming-of-age party, the classic event menu — soup, four-meat platter, multiple side dishes — returns largely untouched. The format that works: a generous appetizer upon arrival, a single, simple, recognizable main course, snacks available continuously after 10 p.m., and a well-stocked soft drink bar.
Why doesn't the classic menu work?
Three reasons, all observable at any 18th birthday party:
- Teenagers don't sit at the table. Eat standing up, in a group, between two songs.
- Eat earlier and later than adults — upon arrival and after midnight, not at 8:00 p.m.
- They prefer food they recognize. An elaborate platter remains untouched next to one with simple things.
The structure that works
| time | What is served? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Upon arrival (6:30 PM) | Rich appetizer: mini-sandwiches, bruschetta, raw vegetables with dip, mini-pizza | They come hungry from school or home. |
| Main course (20:00) | One course, served: grilled chicken or schnitzel, potatoes, salad | Simple, recognizable, actually edible |
| After the cake (10:00 PM) | Snacks available continuously: mini-burgers, fries, wings, nachos | The second wave of hunger, the strongest |
| All evening | Non-alcoholic drinks bar: lemonades, smoothies, flavored water | Presentation matters more than content |
Actual quantities
- Appetizer: 250-300 g/person — less than at an adult event, but consumed in its entirety.
- Main course: 350-400 g, of which 180-200 g meat.
- Night snacks: 200-250 g/person. This is the category that organizers most often underestimate.
- Non-alcoholic drinks: 1.5-2 liters/person for a dance party. Much more than at an adult event.
- Cake: one serving per guest, plus 10%. No more — at a coming-of-age party, cake is the moment, not dessert.
The alcohol-free bar: how to make it matter
It is the only menu item that can become an attraction in itself. What works:
- Three-four non-alcoholic cocktails with their own names, written on a blackboard
- Real cocktail glasses, not plastic ones
- Visual elements: cut fruit, mint, ice with frozen fruit in it
- A fruity lemonade dispenser that visually refills itself
- Cucumber and mint flavored water — more is consumed than you expect

Dietary restrictions
Vegetarian and vegan diets are more common among younger age groups than among adults. In a group of 60 teenagers, it is realistic to have 4-8 people with restrictions. Ask for them explicitly when confirming the invitation and provide the location number at least a week in advance. Our kitchen prepares vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free options upon request.
Cake: moment, not dessert
At a coming-of-age party, the cake is a showpiece. Practical recommendations:
- Take it out earlier than at other events — around 9:30 p.m.
- Two cold fireworks are enough; a full show costs a lot and lasts 40 seconds.
- He announces to the DJ that the music should slow down and then start right after.
- The photographer must already be positioned, not called at that moment.
- The number of servings is calculated per guest, not per visual effect.

Frequently asked questions
What food is served at a coming-of-age party?
Rich appetizer upon arrival, a single simple main course — grilled chicken or schnitzel with potatoes and salad — and snacks available continuously after the cake: mini-burgers, wings, fries, nachos.
How much food is calculated for a teenager?
Approximately 250-300 g appetizer, 350-400 g main course and another 200-250 g night snacks. The last category is the most often underestimated.
How many non-alcoholic drinks does an adult need?
Between 1.5 and 2 liters per person for a dance party, significantly more than at an adult event.
What time is the cake brought out at the birthday party?
Around 9:30 PM, earlier than at other events, because after 10 PM, guests don't sit down at the table.
Can vegetarian menus be prepared for a party?
Yes. In a group of teenagers, dietary restrictions are common. Communicate the exact number of special portions at least a week before the event.
